30% of voters cast votes in 3 hours

Supervisor of Elections, Mr. Wesley Howell, reported a steady stream of voters at the 17 polling stations on Grand Cayman, where nearly 30% of the electors had cast their votes in the first three hours of voting.

On Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, the voting has also been smooth with an average voting rate of 10% an hour, Mr. Howell said.

Voting began at 7 am on all three islands and continues until 6 pm today (Wednesday, 24 May 2017), General Elections Day, which is a public holiday. “I urge the voters to vote early and not wait till the last minute,” Mr. Howell advised.

“I also ask them to check their names in the registry and polling locations, both on our website www.elections.ky so that they arrive at the right location,” he noted.

“Finally, while this has been repeated, I ask voters to be mindful of casting only one vote in our new One Person, One Vote system that came into force during this General Elections,”  Mr. Howell added.

So far, the voting has been smooth for the most part barring a few instances of canvassing beyond last midnight and several reports of canvassing within the 300 feet boundary today by candidate agents, he stated. “All reports are being looked into by the RCIPS,” he added.
