CI First Rap Off Registration Extended

The deadline for the most talented Rapper in the Cayman Islands to win a trip to Sound Academy in LA for a four day workshop has been extended.

Cayman’s very first National Rap Off signup deadline has been pushed to 16th August.

Officials from Hurleys Media and the Cayman Music and Entertainment Association said the reason for the extension was to make sure everyone had enough time to ‘make the cut’.

So far there has been an overwhelming response to what CMEA representatives called an unprecedented event.

“The National Heritage and Culture Policy exercise has uncovered that most youngsters are creating rap music. We want to encourage that creative direction, as we have done the same with regional genres,” noted a CMEA PR representative.

Music Association Officials added that the fact that there was a song contest during Pirate’s Week that stipulated that only regional genres could participate, ‘it was only fair and right that the same kind of opportunity existed for those doing American Urban Music/Hip Hop or Rap’.

Sound Academy is a highly accredited music program that will avails the winner of the Rap off of industry standard recording equipment, as well as best practices and strategies, as they relate to music and today’s Music industry.

The Ministry of Culture and current Minister Dwayne Seymour have been instrumental supporting these kinds of opportunities and will also be endorsing the event and trip to Sound Academy, according to organizers.

“The Minister shares the vision of the Association and I have to say this is the most I have ever seen done by any Minister of Culture. He has been the most progressive by far,” noted CMEA President Jean Eric Smith.

The final of the competition is slated for the end of September and is set to take place LIVE on the radio airwaves of Hurleys Media.
