Kimpton to celebrate Global Wellness Day

Anyone needing a kickstart to improving their well-being can head to the Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa on Saturday 8th June, as the resort marks Global Wellness Day with a series of events geared to improving mental health and wellness.

Global Wellness Day is a social project first developed in a Turkish spa eight years ago as a way of bringing people from all over the world together with a central focus – to improve their wellness. Now this movement has grown and Global Wellness Day is celebrated in around 5,000 locations in 130 countries globally. The main aims of the day are to help people recognise the value of their lives, to help them let go of the stress of everyday life and bad habits, and to raise awareness about living well and increase motivation, not just for the one day, but for every day of the year. The Cayman Islands is one of the newest countries added to the roster of countries celebrating the annual event.

The Kimpton’s Spa Director is Ram Chatterjee and he is also titled the Global Wellness Ambassador of the Cayman Islands. Ram will be leading the Kimpton’s Global Wellness Day starting at 7am with an hour-long community-wide beach clean-up. At 8am, Ram will give a welcome speech where he will be talking about the benefits of overall health, wellness and holistic healing. This short opening speech will then be followed by a half-hour-long Pilates class starting at 8.15am, followed by a 9:00 am balance and breathing exercise. A short mental wellness seminar will then take place from 9.30am to 9.45am and refreshments will follow at 10am.

“Global Wellness Day is a worldwide phenomenon that we are celebrating at the Kimpton. Our event free to attend and is community-focused,” Ram explained.

“Wellness is a passion for me, and I’m happy to share this passion with the entire community,” he went on to say.

Ram said the power of positive thought brought people to him who said it had saved their relationships.

He also said that acceptance in particular was such an important quality to have as an individual.

“The whole world is my family,” he said “not just where I came from. You cannot choose your place of birth, but that shouldn’t mean that others around you don’t matter.”
