Statement Re: Court Proceedings

At an appearance in Grand Court Mariel Maleno Suriel (a 33 year old Dominican female from George Town) pled guilty to four counts of Conspiracy to Commit Fraud on the Government, contrary to s.11(1)(a) and s.52 of the Anti-Corruption Law (2014 Revision).

The charges relate to the provision of assistance to pass the English Language Test and arranging the payment of a reward for the provision of such assistance.

The trial of the remaining eleven defendants will commence on 14 January 2019 and is expected to last for two months.

As the matter is now before the Courts, the Commission will not provide any further comment on the matter.
