Burna Boy was brilliant at World Creole Festival

Dominica’s World Creole Festival made a welcome return with fabulous performances from Burna Boy, Kes the Band, Sizzla, Shenseea and TK International over the weekend.

Launched to promote Dominica tourism and create a world class platform for indigenous Dominican music, the World Creole Music Festival has become a renowned staple on the regional calendar. The event also ties in with Dominica’s Independence on Thursday, November 3.

Soca star Kees Dieffenthaller said: “Dominica is a nature isle gem, where you can come relax and take in the wonderful nature, Dominica has to offer.”

Before he performed, reggae ace Sizzla said: “I will have a special performance for Dominica, because I hold the country dear to me and I like what the festival does. It brings people from different countries together, to enjoy the different genres of music. I think other countries should take a page out of Dominica and start a festival to bring people together and unite.”

Grammy award winning Nigerian afrobeats star Burna Boy, who had just performed in Tobago and despite the torrential rain, was able to lift the dampened spirits at the Plymouth Recreational Grounds with an electrifying performance. About 10,000 attended the three-day festival which ended on Sunday. Around 6,500 people arrived from St Lucia, Martinique and Guadeloupe to enjoy the festival. The Dominican government invested over US$4 million.
