Employers Urged to Notify WORC of Cancelled Permits

Government 27 May, 2020 Follow News

Old Walkers building

Workforce Opportunities and Residency Cayman (WORC) would like to remind employers of their legal obligation to notify the Department of the ending of employment of any of their employees.

Under section nine of the Immigration Regulations, failure to notify the Department of cessation of employment is an offence and offenders are liable on conviction, to a fine of five thousand dollars.

During this time while we deal with the challenges posed by COVID-19 to the Cayman Islands, we understand that things are not necessarily business as normal for many employers. However, we remain committed to serving you and keeping you informed, as we aim to promote continued compliance with local Immigration legislation.

We also want to take this opportunity to remind employers of their legal obligation to ensure all employee work permits are current and up to date. Employees on work permits are not allowed to engage in any duties for any other employer, or outside the approved occupation, without approval from WORC. Failing to comply with this can also result in prosecution.

A special thanks to the employers who have already taken the necessary steps to comply with this requirement. We strongly encourage other employers to follow suit, to avoid potential prosecution.

Work permit cancellations should be submitted to WPCancellations@gov.ky.

To report any immigration related complaints or concerns please email WORCcomplaints@gov.ky.

Visit www.WORC.ky for additional details on services offered.
