Farmer Nappy beat off strong competition
Darryl “Farmer Nappy” Henry is the proud new king of calypso in Trinidad and Tobago.
Farmer Nappy won the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organisation and bmobile’s online Road March competition in a year of no march on the road. And for him, it is a win for the people because the National Carnival Commission declared before the judging that there would not be an official winner.
Besides winning the online Road March, he also won the Soca Monarch with a prize of TT$150,000 (KY$18,400). Carnival 2021 was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic so it all went online.
He was presented with his prize at a ceremony at the TSTT suite, Queen’s Park Oval, Tragarete Road, Port of Spain last Wednesday. Long-time friend and former bandmate Machel Montano congratulated Farmer Nappy on his win: “From day one we knew this will come.”
