Book fairs in Grenada help inspire kids to read
Grenada’s St Georges Seventh Day Adventist School is inspiring school children to improve their reading skills by organising book fairs.
The Early Learner’s Programme was created by the Adventist’s literacy committee five years ago to inspire struggling young readers. The Adventists combine with teachers to generate excitement around reading and foster creativity and critical thinking.
For the book fair, each class is given an opportunity to prepare a report on a book they have read. The report is presented as an original song, skit or poem, as well as the creation of a 3-dimensional model of the main character. On the day of presentation, students are interviewed about their book. They also must answer questions that will help them think, and the responses are recorded and judged.
