Teachers and students of Years 3 to 6 in the Cayman Islands Government schools have received copies of “The Wreck of the Ten Sail” by local author, Sam Oakley to add to their classroom libraries.
The donation was facilitated by the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports, Agriculture and Lands (MEYSAL) in conjunction with LIFE ‘Literacy is For Everyone’, a local literacy charity which has been instrumental in the promotion of literacy engagement in schools.
Ms Oakley commented, “It is such a huge endorsement for my writing that the Ministry of Education wants to introduce this book as part of the school curriculum. I am quite delighted at this huge honour.”
The author added, “The Wreck of the Ten Sail” chronicles one of the Cayman Islands’ most intriguing historical events and brings to life in exciting narrative form, the events surrounding this infamous disaster.
“The text is a welcome resource for the primary schools’ Social Studies and English Language curriculum,” said Yosha Alphonse, Literary Specialist of MEYSAL.
