2025 Inter-Primary Cricket Competition begins

The 2025 Inter-Primary Cricket Competition began this past Friday with a number of exciting games being played at venues across the Island.

The 2025 competition runs from May to June with 14 participating schools that are divided into two zones (Zone A and B) in the girls’ and boys’ leagues. Games are 12 overs for boys and 8 overs for girls with each bowler restricted to bowling 3 overs (boys) and 2 overs (girls). Field sizes are roughly half a football field and teams consist of 11 players. Games are played on Friday afternoons starting at noon (girls) and 1:00 p.m. (boys) at various primary school and sports field venues.

St. Ignatius Catholic are defending boys’ league champions and East End Primary are defending girls’ league champions.

The Inter-Primary Cricket Competition is organised and coordinated by the Department of Education Services, the Department of Sports and the Cayman Cricket Association and sponsored by Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd. (CUC).

Schools in Zone A in the girls’ and boys’ league include Cayman Prep B, Edna Moyle Primary, East End Primary, Island Primary A, Joanna Clarke Primary, Prospect Primary, Red Bay Primary Theoline L. McCoy Primary. Zone B in the girls’ and boys’ league consists of Cayman Academy, Cayman International School (CIS), Cayman Prep A, Island Primary B, Marie Martin Primary, Sir John A. Cumber Primary, St. Ignatius Catholic and newcomers Footsteps School.

Results from the first day of competition included:

Zone A Girls:

Island Primary A defeated Red Bay Primary 105 runs to 57 runs, Edna Moyle Primary beat Prospect Primary 89 runs to 78 runs and defending champions East End Primary downed Joanna Clarke Primary 45 runs to 42 runs.

Zone B Girls:

Cayman Prep A beat Footsteps School 76 runs to 49 runs and Island Primary B downed Marie Martin Primary 73 runs to 67 runs.

Zone A Boys:

Island Primary A beat Red Bay Primary 95 runs to 90 runs, Prospect Primary and Edna Moyle Primary played to a draw scoring 88 runs each and East End Primary defeated Joanna Clarke Primary 117 runs to 116 runs.

Zone B Boys:

Cayman Prep A got past Footsteps School 31 runs to 27 runs and Marie Martin Primary defeated Island Primary B 136 runs to 74 runs.

The Zone A boys’ and girls’ games between Theoline L. McCoy Primary versus Cayman Prep B and the Zone B boys’ and girls’ games between Cayman International School versus St. Ignatius Catholic and Sir John A. Cumber Primary versus Cayman Academy were postponed.

Round 2 of the 2025 season continues this Friday, May 9 with a full schedule of games including:

Zone A Girls and Boys: Prospect Primary vs. Red Bay Primary (at Prospect Primary), Island Primary A vs. Joanna Clarke Primary (at Joanna Clarke Primary), Cayman Prep B vs. Edna Moyle Primary (at Edna Moyle Primary) and Theoline L. McCoy Primary vs. East End Primary (at Theoline L. McCoy Primary).

Zone B Girls and Boys: St. Ignatius Catholic vs. Footsteps School (at Smith Road Oval), Cayman International School vs. Island Primary B (at Camana Bay), Cayman Academy vs. Cayman Prep A (at Cayman Prep) and Marie Martin Primary vs. Sir John A. Cumber Primary (at Sir John A. Cumber Primary).

Parents and supporters are encouraged to come out and cheer on our young cricketers.
