Amplify Cayman Introduces HE Governor to Sustainability Charter, Forming Allyship of Community Involvement for Positive Climate Change Action

Members of Amplify Cayman were invited by His Excellency the Governor, Mr Martyn Roper, to the Government Administration Building on Wednesday 20th October 2021 to introduce their Sustainability Charter, continuing their endeavor to form a positive allyship between policy and decision-makers and the Cayman community to bring forth sustainability-driven equity and prosperity.

Amplify Cayman is a solutions-focused grassroots organization of diverse local professionals and community members, and were invited to share their group’s projects and aims with His Excellency. The Governor supported the work of Amplify Cayman to achieve its mission of amplifying the needs and goals of the community to the ears of policy and decision-makers, and applauded the group for their many community projects and publications thus far.

His Excellency shared that the Cayman Islands was receiving support for sustainability and environmental expertise and funding by the UK, including a Climate Change Risk Assessment, and confirmed that the Cayman Islands would be represented at COP26. Other topics discussed included the Commonwealth Climate Growth Fund, District Advisory Councils, and the most recent Environmental Audit Committee Report completed by the United Kingdom House of Commons on The UK’s Footprint on Global Biodiversity.

After a positive open discussion with His Excellency, Amplify Cayman thanked the Governor for his time, support, and advice on how their efforts can be more impactful. In thanking Amplify Cayman for their passion for the Cayman Islands, the Governor also applauded their community outreach to date, and extended his appreciation to those who contributed to the Sustainability Charter: Emily DeCou, Eden Hurlston, Melanie Carmichael, Morgan Ebanks, Rory McDonough, Judy Singh Hurlston, Jeri Bovell, Sharon Hinds, Stephy Scott, and Lisa Hurlston-McKenzie.
