Art opportunities on the Brac

The Cayman Brac Culture & Heritage Organisation (CBC&H) is welcoming artists of all abilities to their Art After Hours figure drawing and creative arts exploration, a free weekly event held on Mondays from 6pm to 7pm at the Eldemire House, 8 Creek Road.

Simone Scott, co-founder of the CBC&H and its Artist in Residence Programme Manager, already organises regular Saturday morning artist meetups, where local artists can pool resources and ideas. The Art After Hours weekly sessions build on that offering, creating inspiration for artists who can unwind, connect with the community and explore figure drawing and other creative art forms in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

“Whether you are an experienced artist or simply looking to try something new, Art After Hours is the perfect way to begin your week with creativity and inspiration,” she said.

The CBC&H is an important resource for the Sister Islands, showcasing Caymanian cultural heritage celebrated through the arts, through its annual Brac Heritage Autumn Festival, and exhibitions throughout the year.

During this year’s Cayman Art Week, the CBC&H and the National Trust of the Cayman Islands had an exhibition and online silent auction. CBC&H is planning to collaborate again for a similar event at the Eldemire House on Cayman Brac during Cayman Art Week 2027, usually held in May.

This year they also island hopped to Little Cayman for art days, which they intend to repeat in 2027.

“The group of Brac artists will also go over to Grand Cayman for a weekend to take a historic houses island tour with the National Trust, and an applied art artists meet up on Seven Mile Beach in which the public can join is also planned,” Simone advised.

Artworks and photos from the Saturday mornings on the Brac and off island excursions will be on display at the Eldemire House.

As well as joining the Art After Hours Monday sessions, visitors and local artists are welcome to join the Cayman Brac Artists meet ups on Saturday mornings. Find out their changing locations by messaging them on Instagram or Facebook and joining their WhatsApp group.

Find Cayman Brac art at NIM Things/SimoneS Art Gallery in Spot Bay, open Monday to Saturday 9am to 6pm, as well as artist Gordon Solomon’s Studio in West End, and Conroy Ebanks’ home studio in the Creek, both of which are open by appointment. There is also the Heritage House craft market held every Thursday from 4 to 6pm at Cayman Brac Beach Resort.
