Cabinet Renames Former Beautification Task Force
The Ministry of Tourism is pleased to announce Cabinet’s approval for the Beautification Task Force (BTF) to be formally renamed as the Beautification Enhancement Committee (BEC), with effect from September 15th 2025. The Committee falls under the remit of the Ministry of Tourism and Trade Development and is led by the Ministry’s Parliamentary Secretary, Ms. Heather Bodden.
The revision in title reflects the evolution of the Committee’s primary responsibilities, which include enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the Cayman Islands through coordinated beautification, anti-littering and environmental stewardship initiatives.
Since its inception, the Committee has been responsible for promoting civic pride in the Cayman Islands and has spearheaded campaigns targeting illegal dumping and the removal of derelict vehicles, along with promoting corporate and individual responsibility for keeping the Cayman Islands cleaner, greener and more attractive for residents and visitors alike.
Commenting on the name change, Parliamentary Secretary Heather Bodden said: “The Beautification Enhancement Committee builds on the solid foundation laid by the Task Force. This change in name more accurately reflects the Committee’s long-term vision — not just to beautify, but to enhance and sustain the Cayman Islands’ natural and built environments for future generations. I am grateful to my colleagues in government, and especially Deputy Premier Rutty for his support of the very necessary work of this committee.”
Going forward the Committee will continue to be chaired by Mrs. Teresa Lewis-Pitcairn, who will be joined by Ms. Romelia Welcome as Deputy Chair. The Cabinet also confirmed the appointments of the following persons.
