Cayman start with double splash

Team Cayman began the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow impressively on Friday night. They delivered a brilliant opening session in the pool, rewriting the record books twice.

In the men’s 4x100 metres freestyle relay Cayman men powered to a new national record, stopping the clock at 3 minutes 26.14 seconds which eclipsed the previous mark of 3:27.63 set at CARIFTA 2023.

Similarly, in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay, after breaking the national record in Friday morning’s heats, they returned that night and smashed it again, posting 3:56.61 and racing to a superb 7thplace finish.

In the individual events, James Allison was second in his heat in the 50m freestyle on Saturday. Kyra Rabess was third in her women’s 400m freestyle heat. Harper Barrowman won her heat in the women’s 200m free. Both Barrowman and Rabess swam well in the 1500m free. Sierrah Broadbelt had a strong swim in her 100m backstroke heat and gained immense experience in the semi-final. She also swam well in the 200m backstroke and the 50m butterfly.  Luke Higgo was sixth in the men’s 200m backstroke and seventh in the 200m individual medley. He was also in the 50m backstroke and 50m free. Daniel Kish was busy too, competing in the men’s 100m butterfly. Connor MacDonald was third in the men’s 400m free. Will Sellars competed in the 200m back, 400m free and won his heat in the 50m backstroke. Riley Watson swam brilliantly in the women’s 200m backstroke for third in her heat. She was also in the 200m IM.
