COVID ANTIBODY RESULTS PUZZLE MEDICAL EXPERTS

Cayman’s health authorities are keen to know how nine persons with no identified COVID-19 contact history tested positive for COVID-19 antibodies.

In the most recent the report, the number of antibody tests that have been conducted at the Health Services Authority and Health City Cayman Islands now stands at 2,316.

Of those, 57 or 2.5% of the number tested, showed the presence of anti-bodies.

Within that number, 37 of them had previously tested positive for COVID-19 and six were contacts of people who had previously tested positive for the virus.

Five of the other 14, five are known to have had a travel history abroad during the recent months.

But the mystery surrounds the other nine who have no identified COVID-19 contact history.

Health authorities are continuing to study what appears to an anomaly.

An antibody test is a blood test to check if a person had coronavirus (COVID-19) before.

It is different to the swab test which checks if the virus is present.

Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer, Dr John Lee, has updated on a continuing pattern of negative COVID-19 PCR tests.

In Tuesday’s report, all of the 286 tests were negative.

There are 181 persons currently in isolation either at a government facility or in their homes as required by the Medical Officer of Health.
