Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd. (CUC) is proud to announce that it was awarded the prestigious Best Large Scale Energy Storage Project at the Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum (CREF) Conference held last week in Miami. The CREF Industry Awards celebrate groundbreaking projects that are accelerating progress and setting real-world examples for a sustainable energy future. CUC received the Best Large Scale Energy Storage Project award for its Utility Scale Battery for Spinning Reserve project.
The Best Energy Storage Project category honours the most innovative and impactful energy storage projects, including battery systems, pumped hydro, and thermal storage. Winning projects demonstrate advancements in technology, scalability, and the ability to support renewable energy integration and grid stability. CUC’s Utility Scale Battery for Spinning Reserve project stood out for its remarkable contributions to these areas.
This recognition is significant as it underscores CUC’s commitment to adopting cutting-edge technology that supports increased renewable energy penetration and enhances the grid’s reliability and resiliency. The system improves fuel efficiency by 5-6%, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, lowers operational costs, and provides customers with annual savings of USD $5 million.
The award was presented at the CREF Conference, a premier event that brings together leaders in the renewable energy sector to discuss and promote sustainable energy solutions.
