Dominican pupils are grateful for their tablets

Dominica’s Ministry of Education has started the distribution of electronic devices to school pupils island wide.

This is a direct response to the challenges faced this school year, as a spike in Covid-19 cases meant more online lessons. This decision was taken in a bid to keep staff and students safe without a major disruption in the academic year.

During the distribution of devices in the Grand Bay Constituency, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit encouraged pupils to make the most of this opportunity for their education.

So far 55 students at the Tete Morne Primary, 122 at the Grand Bay Primary, 80 students at the Roseau Primary, 180 from the Goodwill Primary and 167 from the Atkinson, Salybia, Sineku and Concord Primary schools have received their new devices.

Education minister Octavia Alfred explained that the distribution of devices planned for prior to the beginning of the school year, but had to be delayed due to the pandemic. Alfred said that over 3,000 devices have been sourced and will be distributed to students around the island.
