Davonte Howell won gold at the Pan Am Juniors
Cayman sprint sensation Davonte Howell was one of the big surprises in athletics this year winning the men’s 100 meters with a spectacular 100 metres time of 9.98 seconds in a new Junior Pan American Games record. It even surpassed the results of the last two adult 100m Pan American Games in Lima 2019 and Santiago 2023. With that time, Howell also qualified for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. The former John Gray High School pupil is a member of the Mustang Track Club. He turned 20 in October.
Howell is on the shortlist for Online voting for the 2025 Panam Sports Awards which closes on Sunday 21 December. These awards recognise and honour the best young athletes on the continent who participated in the 2025 Pan American Junior Games. Many of them broke event records, while others continued to triumph on the world stage after their participation in Paraguay.
