Joanna Clarke Primary (blue) and Island Primary 11B opened the 2026 CUC PFL season with a 2-2 draw.

Welcome back to the fields! After eager anticipation and weather-related postponements unavoidably cancelling out the opening weekend of play, the 2026 CUC Primary Football League (PFL) and the Girls’ Primary Football League (GPFL) finally kicked off this past Saturday with games across the Island.

In Group A in the CUC PFL, Joanna Clarke Primary hosted Island Primary’s 9A and 11B boys’ teams and the Island Primary GA girls. In the Under 9 matchup, Island Primary 9A were too strong for the home team and eventually ran out 2-0 winners with goals from Jakob Kelly in the 16th minute and Joshua Maywan in the 23rd minute.

In the Under 11 contest, Joanna Clarke’s Jhaidyn Williams opened the scoring in the 2nd minute with a fine finish and Ivan Macowah put the home side 2-0 up in the 11th minute. Island Primary 11B came storming back as Dominic Drobot scored their opener in the 12th minute and an unfortunate own goal in the 29th minute levelled the score at 2-2. After some heroic goal keeping by both schools, both schools came close to scoring the winner but it never came and the score remained at 2-2.

In other Group A Under 11 games, Cayman International School drew 0-0 with St. Ignatius Catholic and Sir John A. Cumber got past Cayman Prep 11B 2-1.

In Group B Under 9 games, Island Primary 9C got the better of their schoolmates Island Primary 9B 2- 1, defending Under 9 champions Cayman Prep 9A defeated Red Bay Primary 4-0 (respect rule), Prospect Primary downed Sir John A. Cumber 9B 4-0 (respect rule) and NorthEast School beat First Baptist CS 4-0.

In the Under 11 division in Group B, Island Primary 11A defeated Cayman Brac 4-0 (respect rule), defending Under 11 champions Cayman Prep 11A beat Red Bay Primary 4-0 (respect rule), Prospect Primary beat Footsteps School 4-0 (respect rule) and First Baptist CS edged NorthEast Schools 2-1.

In the GPFL division in Group A, Joanna Clarke Primary lost out to Island Primary GA 3-1 but not before surprising their visitors after taking the lead in the 4th minute thanks to Naomi Bonner’s fine finish. Fielding only 5 players for much of the game, Joanna Clarke’s young ladies were excellent

throughout the game, but the numerical disadvantage soon took its toll as they gave up three goals late in the fourth quarter. Island Primary’s Amelia Scarff equalised in the 32nd minute, Sophie Kuznecova added a second in the 34th minute and Layla O’Reilly rounded off the scoring in the 35th minute.

In other girls’ games in Group A, Sir John A. Cumber Primary and Cayman Prep GB battled to a 1-1 draw and Cayman International School got past St. Ignatius Catholic 4-0.

In the only Group B girl’s game, Cayman Prep GA beat Red Bay Primary 4-0.

Week 3 games scheduled for this Saturday, October 3 will be played at the Annex Field, Prospect Primary, Joanna Clarke Primary, Red Bay Primary, West Bay Town Hall Field, Island Primary and the Ronald Forbes Field.
