KPMG in the Cayman Islands proudly celebrated its annual Make a Difference Day (MaDD), where the people of the firm dedicate their time and expertise in support of the local community. This year, volunteers from KPMG in the Cayman Islands spent their day helping out across five impactful local initiatives, reaffirming KPMG’s longstanding commitment to citizenship and community partnership.
Across the initiatives, KPMG’s volunteers contributed to education, food security, environmental sustainability, and youth development, with strong participation across the firm. The initiatives for this year’s MaDD included:
National Council of Voluntary Organizations (NCVO) and local student arts and crafts
KPMG teamed up with NCVO, where 30 KPMG volunteers and 40 students worked together to make turtle and stingray crafts in celebration of Heritage Week. KPMG provided lunch for everyone involved and each student also received a gift bag filled with crafts to take home to encourage continued play and learning.
Meals on Wheels island-wide meal delivery
A team of 50 volunteers delivered over 150+ hot meals to seniors and vulnerable residents across the island. KPMG sponsored all 350 meals served on the day, fueling the Meals on Wheels mission to combat hunger and isolation in the Cayman Islands.
John Gray High School garden initiative
Ten volunteers worked alongside 35 students to build and decorate grow boxes and plant over 70 crops at the school, including tomatoes, callaloo, and seasoning peppers, all donated by the Department of Agriculture. KPMG funded all project materials, helping provide students with hands-on agricultural learning and sustainable gardening skills.
John Gray High School campus initiative
A team of 25 volunteers refreshed key areas of the John Gray High School campus by painting benches, exterior walls and gates along Walkers Road, contributing to a more welcoming environment for both students and staff alike.
National Trust – Butterfly Garden restoration
22 volunteers helped plant 50 new crops to create a Butterfly Garden at Malportas Pond Bird Sanctuary in North Side. KPMG also committed to sponsoring the garden’s maintenance for the next year, supporting local biodiversity and environmental education efforts.
“Make a Difference Day is one of the most meaningful days in our calendar,” said DeAnn Blackman, KPMG’s Corporate Citizenship Committee Lead. “It’s a chance for our people to give back first-hand, supporting important organizations that are doing critical work across the Cayman Islands. We are incredibly proud of the spirit and enthusiasm shown by our volunteers throughout the day and thankful to all the organizations and charities for their ongoing hard work in our community.”
Make a Difference Day reflects KPMG in the Cayman Islands’ dedication to building meaningful, long-term relationships that enrich the community. KPMG would like to thank all volunteers and community partners, including NCVO, Meals on Wheels, John Gray High School, the Department of Agriculture, and the National Trust, for their collaboration and shared vision for a stronger Cayman Islands.
