National Weather Service Unveils Fresh New Look
By: CIG Public Relations
The Cayman Islands National Weather Service officially unveiled a fresh new look on Wednesday, 16 July, introducing a new logo and updated forecast graphics designed to make weather information clearer, more accessible and easier for the public to understand. The enhancements aim to improve how residents prepare for changing weather conditions and stay safe.
The new look includes a modernised National Weather Service logo and updated forecast graphics that are colour coded in line with international meteorological standards. The colour codes are designed to help residents quickly recognise weather alerts, understand the level of risk and take the appropriate action. The shift to a more visual format also moves the forecasts away from the previous text-heavy approach, making weather information clearer and easier to follow.
The Cayman Islands National Weather Service also has a WhatsApp channel that offers a convenient way for residents to stay informed and better prepared as weather conditions develop. Members of the public are encouraged to join the channel to receive weather forecasts, alerts, and real-time updates directly on their mobile phones.
Persons can also visit www.weather.gov.ky to learn more about the updated colour codes and how they support better understanding of local weather alerts and risks.
In commenting on the updates, Director General of the National Weather Service John Tibbetts stated, “This new visual approach represents an important step forward in how we communicate with the public. By aligning with international colour code standards and shifting toward more graphic-based forecasts, we are making weather information easier to understand at a glance.”
He further added, “Our goal is to equip residents across all three islands with clear, accessible information so they can make timely decisions, whether on a sunny day or ahead of a potential storm. This is about enhancing public awareness and strengthening preparedness through more effective communication.”
The public learn more about the updated forecast visuals and colour codes by visiting www.weather.gov.ky and stay informed by joining the official Cayman Islands National Weather Service WhatsApp channel for real-time updates and alerts.
