Members of the newly appointed Public Transport Board convene for their first official meeting.
The Ministry of Planning, Lands, Agriculture, Housing & Infrastructure (PLAHI) is pleased to announce that the newly appointed Public Transport Board (PTB) held its first official meeting yesterday, October 15th, marking an important milestone in the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to improve and modernise public transport across the Cayman Islands.
The inaugural meeting brought together Board members to begin discussions on strengthening the safety, reliability, efficiency, and accessibility of the public transport system for residents and visitors alike.
The members of the Board are as follows:
• Mr. David Bodden – Chairperson
• Ms. Patricia Ulett – Deputy Chairperson
• Mr. Collin Redden – Member
• Mr. Davis Scott – Member
• Mr. Javier Medina – Member
• Ms. Judy Powery – Member
Ex-Officio Members include representatives from:
• Ministry of Planning, Lands, Agriculture, Housing & Infrastructure
• Ministry of Tourism
• Cayman Islands Port Authority
• Cayman Islands Airport Authority
The Public Transport Board (PTB) serves as the statutory authority responsible for licensing and regulating all public passenger vehicles, setting safety and service standards, and reviewing routes and schedules to ensure services meet the needs of the community. The Board will also handle complaints, advise the Government on system improvements, and promote sustainable transport initiatives that support the Islands’ long-term growth.
Speaking following the meeting, Honourable Johany “Jay” Ebanks, Minister for Planning, Lands, Agriculture, Housing & Infrastructure, said:
“This first meeting of the Public Transport Board marks a new chapter in building a more modern and efficient transport system for our Islands. I am confident that with the experience and dedication of this Board, we will see meaningful progress toward a safer, more reliable public transport network that truly serves the needs of our growing community.”
Chairperson of the Public Transport Board, Mr. David Bodden, added:
“It is an honour to lead this Board as we begin the important work of shaping the future of public transport in the Cayman Islands. Our focus will be on improving standards, supporting operators, and ensuring that public transport remains safe, affordable, and accessible for everyone. We are committed to collaborating closely with stakeholders to deliver real improvements that benefit the entire community.”
