New Requirements for Carcass Deliveries to Butcher Shops

New Requirements for Carcass Deliveries to Butcher Shops

Effective immediately, all butcher shops requesting meat deliveries from the Department of Agriculture’s Abattoir must ensure the following minimum standards are met at the time of delivery:

Delivery Requirements:

• A functioning cooler maintained between 33°F – 45°F at the time of delivery

• A clean and sanitary butcher area, free of debris, vermin, and pests

Butchers/farmers are expected to be present at the time of delivery, if not present, please ensure the “Waiver of Liability for the Delivery of Carcasses” is signed prior, otherwise, carcasses will be returned to the Department of Agriculture Abattoir.

Copies of the required waiver are available at both the Department of Agriculture’s Main Office and the Abattoir.

Please note: Abattoir staff reserve the right to refuse delivery of meat or meat products if these conditions are not met.

This measure is being enforced to safeguard public health and food safety, and we appreciate your full cooperation.

In addition, please take note of the upcoming public holiday on Monday, July 7th (Constitution Day). We encourage all customers to stock up on agricultural supplies and livestock feed in advance of the long weekend.
