St. Ignatius Catholic (purple) in action against Theoline L. McCoy Primary in the CUC PFL Under 11 division.
The mid-term break always offers a brief but welcome respite for the gallant young footballers participating in the CUC Primary Football League (PFL) and Girls’ Primary Football League (GPFL). With schools back in session, Saturday, November 1 marked week six of play in the league as primary school football returned to Grand Cayman’s fields.
Headlining Saturday’s Group A CUC PFL action, First Baptist Christian School (FBCS) visited Camana Bay SC to take on Sir John A. Cumber Primary 9B in the Under 9 encounter and Cayman International School (CIS) 11 Blue in the Under 11 game.
With a strong parental presence in attendance, the youngsters from Sir John A. Cumber 9A took the lead through a Rashon Roberts strike in the 18th minute. Determined to get back on level terms, the FBCS youngsters flooded forward in search of that elusive goal and Kai Doctor finally obliged by scoring the equaliser in the 30th minute. With chances at a minimum for the remainder of the game, the final whistle ended this entertaining encounter at 1-1.
In the Under 11 contest, goals were aplenty as CIS 11 Blue outlasted the visitors 5-3. FBCS got off to a flying start as two goals from FBCS’ Nigel Morgan in the 23rd and 25th minutes saw his school leap into a 2-0 lead. With the start of the second half, CIS 11 Blue finally found their form and responded with four quick goals of their own - two off the boots of Charlie Russell in the 30th and 32nd minutes, one from Liam Remizowski in the 31st minute and a fourth from Lee Russell in the 35th minute. CIS’ Charlie Burch sealed the three points with a fifth in the 41st minute before FBCS’ Nigel Morgan completed his hat-trick with a late penalty in the 44th minute, but it was too little too late for his team.
In the only other Group A Under 9 game, Cayman Prep 9B beat Marie Martin Primary 4-0 (respect rule enforced).
