Stop Wasting Your Workouts! Get Better Results in Less Time
What if you could spend LESS time working out and get MORE from every minute you exercise?
You don’t necessarily need longer workouts. You need better workouts.
Too many people spend hours in the gym without getting the results they want. They repeat the same exercises, go through the motions, get distracted and wonder why their progress has stalled.
The answer isn’t always “work harder.”
Sometimes, it’s simply “work smarter.”
Here are nine ways to make every workout count:
1. FOCUS LIKE YOUR RESULTS DEPEND ON IT
Because they do!
When you lift weights, don’t just move the weight from Point A to Point B. Concentrate on the muscle you’re training and the quality of every repetition.
Put the phone away. Stop looking around. Stop worrying about what everyone else is doing.
Your workout deserves your full attention.
2. STOP DOING THE SAME OLD WORKOUT
If your body already knows exactly what’s coming, it has less reason to adapt.
Change your exercises, resistance, repetitions, intensity, rest periods or training methods. Give your muscles a new challenge.
If you want different results, you have to be willing to do things differently.
3. FEED YOUR RESULTS
You can’t out-train a poor diet.
Your body needs quality nutrition and adequate hydration to perform, recover and build a stronger, healthier body.
Focus on real, wholesome foods, adequate protein and plenty of water.
Train your body. Fuel your body. Then give it a reason to change.
4. FIND YOUR POWER HOUR
Think you have to work out at 5 a.m. because that’s when “serious” people exercise?
Think again.
The best time to exercise is the time when you can perform well and consistently show up.
If mornings leave you exhausted, try lunchtime. If lunchtime doesn’t work, train after work.
There’s no prize for exercising at an inconvenient time.
The best workout schedule is the one you’ll actually follow.
5. DON’T TRAIN ALONE
Ever notice that you push yourself harder when someone is watching?
That’s not your imagination.
Training with a partner, group or personal trainer can increase accountability and motivation—and help you push through those final challenging repetitions.
Sometimes you don’t need more motivation.
You need someone who won’t let you quit.
6. USE CAFFEINE—IF IT’S RIGHT FOR YOU
A moderate amount of caffeine before exercise can help increase alertness and may enhance exercise performance for some people.
But caffeine isn’t for everyone. If you have a medical condition, take medications or have been advised to avoid caffeine, check with your healthcare professional first.
And remember: caffeine can enhance a good workout—it can’t replace one.
7. PUT YOUR PLAYLIST TO WORK
Your favorite music can do more than entertain you.
The right song can increase your motivation, improve your mood and help you push through a tough workout.
So create a playlist that makes you want to move.
If the beat gets you through the last few reps, turn it up!
8. DRESS FOR SUCCESS
You wouldn’t play a football game in dress shoes. So why exercise in uncomfortable clothing?
Wear workout clothes and footwear that allow you to move freely and confidently.
You should be thinking about your form—not whether your pants are going to survive your next squat!
9. STOP GUESSING—GET PROFESSIONAL HELP
This is where many people lose valuable time.
They exercise without a plan. They do random workouts. They don’t know how much weight to use, how many repetitions to perform or when to increase the challenge.
Then they wonder why they aren’t getting results.
A personal trainer can change that.
A professional can help you create a structured program, teach you proper technique, keep you accountable and continually challenge your body as you improve.
Why spend months—or years—trying to figure it out yourself?
