Inspired by a desire to contribute to Cayman’s digital future, ICCI student Lilian Jackson-Ebanks recently brought her ambitions to Silicon Valley, an experience made possible through sponsorship from TechCayman. The organisation supported her participation in the International Seminar in Artificial Intelligence and Business, a full week immersive program held in early November that included industry presentations and site visits to organizations leading global technology innovation.

Lilian, a Business and IT student at the International College of the Cayman Islands, visited Stanford University’s AI Lab, Plug and Play Tech Center and several leading technology companies during the programme. The seminar provided direct exposure to real-world applications of artificial intelligence, responsible innovation practices and the dynamics of high-growth tech ecosystems.

“Programmes like this ensure Caymanians can participate in global learning experiences that strengthen skills, broaden perspectives and support the growth of our local tech sector,” said Jennifer McCarthy, Head of Client Services and Operations at TechCayman. “We are committed to creating pathways for Caymanian students and professionals to access opportunities that may otherwise be out of reach.”

For Lilian, who balances full-time work in the financial services sector with evening studies and family responsibilities, the experience offered valuable insight into emerging technologies and their relevance to Cayman’s economic future.

“Being in Silicon Valley gave me a new appreciation for how quickly technology is evolving and how important ethics, flexibility and continuous learning are,” she said after returning. “This opportunity has inspired me to continue building the technical skills needed for roles in AI, data and cybersecurity. I am deeply grateful for TechCayman’s support.”

The sponsorship reflects TechCayman’s broader investment in education and workforce development, which includes robotics camps, school partnerships and community-led STEM initiatives designed to prepare Caymanians for a rapidly changing digital economy.

“Strengthening Cayman’s tech ecosystem requires more than attracting global companies,” said McCarthy. “It requires developing local talent and ensuring Caymanians have the confidence, capability and opportunities to lead within the sector. Lilian’s experience reflects what is possible when access and support come together.”

By supporting participation in global programmes such as the AI and Business seminar, TechCayman aims to equip Caymanians with the skills and exposure needed to contribute to high-growth sectors, including financial technology, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and data-driven business. Lilian is set to graduate from ICCI in 2026 and plans to pursue a career at the intersection of finance, data and policy.
