UCCI’S DR. ANNETTE MURPHY ELECTED TO INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS EDUCATION BOARD

Local News 26 May, 2025 Follow News

The University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) has today announced that Dr. Annette Murphy has been elected to the Board of Directors of the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE). Dr. Murphy will represent the Latin American Regional Assembly for a three-year term beginning April 2025.  Dr. Annette Murphy has also this month been appointed Acting Dean of the Division of Business and Finance at UCCI.

The IACBE is a globally recognized programmatic accrediting agency for business education, acknowledged by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). The mission of the IACBE is to advance academic quality in business programmes through evidence-based accreditation that encourages institutions to build unique educational models to reflect their mission and vision. IACBE believes that academic quality and excellence in business education should be measured in terms of the educational outcomes of an academic business unit relative to its mission rather than by prescriptive standards relating to academic resources.

“Dr. Murphy’s appointment to this prestigious international board highlights UCCI’s growing reputation in global business education,” said Dr Livingston Smith, Acting President of UCCI. “Her expertise and leadership will benefit not only our institution but business education throughout the Caribbean and Latin American region.”

With over 25 years of educational experience, Dr. Murphy currently coordinates several key UCCI programmes, including the Cayman Banking Certificate, the Student Consultancy Programme, and the International Business Practicum. Her areas of expertise include Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management, Strategic Management, and Organizational Behaviour.

“I am honoured to represent UCCI and the Cayman Islands in this international capacity,” said Dr. Murphy. “This opportunity allows me to contribute to shaping business education standards while bringing global best practices back to benefit our students and the broader Cayman business community.”

The IACBE Board of Directors governs the organization’s affairs and establishes policies essential to accomplishing its mission. Board members include executive officers, representatives from Regional Assemblies, and members-at-large.

Dr. Murphy’s appointment strengthens UCCI’s international connections and reinforces the institution’s commitment to providing world-class business education in the Cayman Islands.

This milestone also comes as UCCI celebrates its 50th Anniversary in 2025.

Established in 1975, UCCI has served as the national leader in tertiary education for five decades, contributing significantly to the Cayman Islands’ development through academic excellence, workforce training, and innovation. The golden anniversary is being marked under the theme “Honoring the Past. Inspiring the Future,” with a year-long series of events and initiatives that reflect on the institution’s legacy and bold vision for the next generation of Caymanian learners and leaders.
