The University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) has strengthened its international academic partnership with George Brown College (Toronto) by welcoming Dr. Heidi Marsh, Associate Vice President for Teaching and Learning, for a week of evidence-based professional development with UCCI faculty and staff.

Dr. Marsh, a cognitive psychologist and head of George Brown’s Teaching & Learning Exchange, joined UCCI’s Professional Development Week this August, to deliver practical workshops focused on improving student outcomes and classroom practice, covering evidence-based strategies to boost student retention, adult-learning methodologies for higher education and technical, vocational settings, and neuroscience-informed teaching practices with day-to-day classroom applications.

“Dr. Marsh’s visit reflects UCCI’s commitment to innovation in teaching and learning,” said UCCI Acting President and CEO, Dr. Livingston Smith. “By collaborating with global leaders like George Brown College, we are investing in strategies that directly enhance student outcomes and instructional quality here in the Cayman Islands.”

Professional Development Week also featured a variety of other training and development activities for faculty, staff, and the wider education community, underscoring UCCI’s ongoing efforts to strengthen teaching practices and academic excellence.

This initiative also builds on recent discussions between UCCI leadership and officials from the Ministry of Education during the university’s commencement ceremony, reaffirming a shared vision for educational excellence and workforce readiness for the Cayman Islands.
