“We’re thrilled to see Matt Brown return for his third season of Wha Happening,” says Cassandra Shea, Head of Theatre and Festivals at CNCF. “At CNCF, we’re proud to continue supporting bold Caymanian voices, and like any good punchline - comedy often lands best in threes. This third season promises to be the comedic button we’ve all been waiting for.”

This year’s ensemble brings together a powerhouse of Cayman’s top comedic talent, including Michael McLaughlin, Matt Brown, Lesley-Ann Bernard, Evana Martinez, Brent McLean, Illey Moya, Arthur McTaggart, and Leroy Holness.

Wha Happening follows in the comedic footsteps of CNCF’s iconic satirical revue Rundown, evolving the format with original devised sketches that reflect the ever-changing social and political landscape of Cayman. Each show season is crafted collaboratively, pulling from real-life scenarios, overheard conversations, and cayman pop culture.

Reflections on Comedy and Theatre in Cayman by Cassandra Shea, Head of Theatre at CNCF

Comedy has always held a special place in Caribbean storytelling, not just for laughs, but as a mirror to our lived experiences. For example, productions like Rundown and Wha Happening use satire to highlight our quirks, social issues, and everyday life in Cayman, allowing audiences to laugh while also reflecting on the world around them.

In recent years, the rise of devised theatre has allowed performers and creators to shape performances organically through collaboration, improvisation, and real-world influence. Devised theatre is a collaborative form of theatre-making where the performance is created collectively by the ensemble. This method empowers artists to build shows like Wha Happening from the ground up, drawing directly from the community they serve.

Historically, theatre has often walked a tightrope between reflection and critique, challenging us to always push our artistic approaches. As a multiethnic, multilingual, and culturally rich society, Cayman presents a beautiful web of identities - and it’s vital that our art celebrates this richness through authentic representation by drawing on local voices, stories, and embracing contemporary as well as experimental approaches to performance through Theatre.

At CNCF, we’re committed to comedy that challenges - not just comforts – our community. We see our audiences not as passive observers, but as co-authors of our community and the dialogue shaping us. Our productions must meet the moment: sharp, smart, and inclusive.

Because when comedy reflects our truth, it deepens our understanding, celebrates our resilience, and invites everyone to the table.

Don’t Miss It!

Wha Happening Season 3 is more than a comedy show - it’s an event, a mirror, and a movement. Don’t miss your chance to witness Cayman’s most hilarious and heartfelt theatrical offering this season.

Tickets are available online at ticketsplus.ky or in person at the CNCF Offices, located upstairs behind the theatre.
