The Indiana Pacers reached the NBA Finals for the first time since 2000 as they broke the hearts of the revitalised New York Knicks 125-108 in game six of the Eastern Conference finals over the weekend.
Pascal Siakam maintained his impressive form to be named MVP of the series after recording 31 points and three blocked shots on Saturday in Indianapolis. Siakam scored over 30 points in three of four victories for the Pacers, who won the series 4-2.
The Pacers now face Western Conference winners the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Finals, which began on Thursday.
The Pacers have a deep, young and skilled squad. But the Thunder can match them in every department. The Pacers are tenacious defensively and score effortlessly. But Oklahoma smother other teams’ offensive strategies. Pacers are led by a pair of All-Stars in Tyrese Haliburton and Pascal Siakam. But the Thunder have the Kia MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and All-NBA wing Jalen Williams.
Pacers have enjoyed a magical run to the Finals but have yet to face a defence like OKC’s. The Thunder’s ability to send waves of defenders like Lu Dort, Jalen Williams, Alex Caruso and Cason Wallace to disrupt Tyrese Haliburton and Indiana’s quick-hit offence will be key. Sorry Pacers, it looks like a thunderous victory.
