Over a two day period in April, police conducted an island-wide warrant drive, aiming to identify and arrest persons with outstanding offences. The offences range from fines, to default of payment, and failure to appear for court bail.
During the first day of action, Wednesday 16 April, police conducted 41 warrants in Grand Cayman, resulting in the arrest of 25 individuals. Meanwhile in the Brac, five warrants were conducted resulting in four arrests, with one warrant recalled.
The second day of action, Thursday 24 April, saw 18 warrants executed, and 14 arrests made in Grand Cayman.
“Due to the success of this month’s warrant drive, and with further warrants outstanding, we plan to commit the team of officers assembled for this task to dedicate a couple of days each month to pursue offenders and bring persons before the court to have their cases addressed”, says Superintendent Wendy Parchment. “If persons have any doubt as to whether they have outstanding matters with the court, we encourage you to call your local police station and enquire, so there are no surprises”. Otherwise, our message is simple, “if you have fines to pay or matters with the court, please rectify them as soon as possible, so you can avoid a visit from one of our officers”.
