Police have confirmed the identity of the victim who was discovered to have been shot and killed on Monday, 23 June, as Al Martino Bush, age 49 of West Bay, known in the community as Joe.
Communication between the police and the family of the deceased has been established, and they have been updated on the progress of the investigation so far. The RCIPS would like to extend our sincerest condolences to them in this tragic time.
The RCIPS is aware of the impact that this incident has had on the community, and measures have been implemented to safeguard and provide community reassurance. Some of these measures include:
* Increase patrols in targeted areas, especially throughout the district of West Bay
* Increased presence and visibility of our armed officers within the communities, including conducting foot patrols in key areas.
* Community assessment on main issues and concerns from the public by Community Police Officers.
* They have arrested two men in connection with this incident, and they have since been bailed pending further investigations into this matter.
* The Major Incident Room has been activated, and a major crime team has been established, and detectives are working tirelessly to solve this crime as expeditiously as possible.
"We are appealing to the family, friends and associates of Mr. Bush to allow the police to conduct our investigation and bring the perpetrator(s) to justice in the right way," says Detective Superintendent Peter Lansdown. "The safety of the community is paramount and requires your cooperation. Our detectives have an 85% detection rate for murder investigations in the Cayman Islands, and we are pursuing this investigation with the same level of diligence."
Detectives are seeking witnesses and are encouraging anyone who has had contact or seen Mr. Bush between Saturday, 21 June and Monday, 23 June to call the Major Incident Room at 649-2930.
