LANDSLIDE WIN FOR OPPOSITION IN TURKS AND CAICOS
The Progressive National Party(PNP) has won an overwhelming victory in Friday’s general election in the UK Overseas Territory.
Confirmation came from the office of Governor Nigel Dakin on Saturday morning that the party, which was in opposition, has swept the People’s Democratic Movement(PDM) from power.
The PNP led by former Chief Minister Charles Washington Misick is reported to have won 14 of the 21 seats in the House of Assembly with victories in nine of the ten electoral districts, plus sweeping the five At-Large seats.
Mr Missick will be sworn-in as Premier replacing the PDM’s Sharlene Cartwright-Robinson, the territory’s first female leader.
Voter turnout was said to be high.
