52 COVID-19 Positive cases reported today

The Chief Medical Officer, Dr. John Lee, reports that 2,255 PCR tests for SARS-CoV-2 have been processed since last reported on Friday, 1 October 2021 (as at 9a.m. on Monday, 4 October 2021.)

Positive results were present in 38 community samples and in 14 people on exit from quarantine after travel.

The majority of the community positives were in school children from the following schools: Prospect Primary School, Triple C School, Cayman Academy, John Grey High School, Clifton Hunter High School and two other pre-schools.

Some teachers have been involved and there have also been positives in other adults not associated with these schools.

Affected parents, teachers, and students have been notified by Public Health, and the individual schools have been communicating directly with parents, staff and students on their COVID-19 protocols.

Dr. Lee said, “In view of the fact that infection is fairly widespread, I wish to remind people to please take good care of themselves and their community members by wearing masks in indoor places, keeping distanced, using appropriate cough and sneeze etiquette and practising appropriate hand hygiene. Those who are clinically vulnerable and the elderly need special attention to this for their own part and those who interact with them. Please follow Public Health's guidance if you are asked to isolate; this is vital to reduce and slow the spread of infection through our community.”

To date, 107,853 vaccinations against COVID-19 disease have been given since the start of the vaccination programme, with 55,366 of these being first doses (representing 78% of the estimated population of 71,106) and 52,381 being second doses of the two-dose course (representing 74% of the population). A third, or booster dose, has been received by 106 people.
