The Cayman Islands Further Education Centre (CIFEC) proudly congratulates students who successfully completed a six-month internship programme with the Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control (CBC). This year, CBC provided work placements to twelve students.
The internship programme, which ran from October 2025 to April 2026, provided students with valuable hands-on experience across several operational areas within CBC, including Airport Operations, Parcel Post, Visa Services and other key border control functions.
To mark the completion of the programme, CBC hosted a farewell function for the students. Parents and guardians, and representatives from both organizations were in attendance. During the event, students received Certificates of Participation in recognition of their commitment and successful involvement in the internship programme.
Students were addressed by CBC Director Bruce Smith, Deputy Director Philip West and Mrs. Ardell Pearson-Bennett, Human Resources Officer, who congratulated the students on their achievements and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence in their educational and professional journeys.
Mr. Smith commended the students for their professionalism, enthusiasm and willingness to learn throughout the internship period. He noted that programmes such as these play an important role in developing the next generation of Caymanian professionals and exposing young people to career opportunities within public service and border security. He further highlighted CBC’s commitment to investing in youth development and creating meaningful learning experiences for students
Mr. West also encouraged the students to make the most of every opportunity presented to them, reminding them that the knowledge, discipline and work ethic gained during the placement would serve them well in future careers.
Also, present to support the students were Mrs. Jenine Stewart, Career Services Manager – CIFEC and Mrs. Tania Johnson, Career Advisor.
Mrs. Stewart praised CBC for its continued partnership and commitment to supporting CIFEC students through work placement opportunities.
“CBC has remained a reliable and valued partner to CIFEC over the years,” she said. “Each year, more students express interest in being placed with CBC than the department is able to accommodate, which speaks volumes about the positive experiences students have while participating in the programme.”
She further thanked CBC management and staff for mentoring the students and providing them with practical workplace exposure that supports both their academic and career development.
The internship programme forms part of CIFEC’s ongoing efforts to equip students with workplace skills, professional experience and career readiness as they prepare for future employment opportunities.
