Deadline Approaches for Replacement of Decommissioned Vehicle Plates

The Department of Vehicle and Drivers’ Licensing (DVDL), in alignment with the National Road Safety Committee’s strategic efforts, is reminding the public that all vehicles currently displaying decommissioned or temporary registration plates—including EVR plates—must complete replacement by 14th November 2025.

This mandate is part of a broader initiative to modernize Cayman’s vehicle registration system, enhance road safety, and ensure regulatory compliance across the board.

The plates being recalled and replaced include:

• Temporary Plates

• Quincentennial Plates (White Letters)

• Personalized Plates (Yellow/ Orange background)

• Old-Style Plates (orange and yellow)

To facilitate this process, the Crewe Road DVDL location is open Monday through Friday during regular business hours. Customers must present:

• Their current plate(s)

• Windshield coupon

• Vehicle logbook

to the Licensing Officer in exchange for new registration plates.

List of Decommissioned Plate Numbers Now Available

For transparency and ease of compliance, the Department has published a list of affected registration numbers, available on www.dvdl.gov.ky and in the local print media.

Enforcement & Penalties

Owners of vehicles still displaying any of the decommissioned plates after 14th November 2025 will be reported to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) for prosecution.

Non-compliance may result in:

• A fine of up to CI $2,500

• Imprisonment of up to six months, or

• Both

To avoid these penalties, the public is strongly encouraged to act immediately.

Renewals of vehicle and driver’s licenses can also be completed online via www.dvdl.gov.ky .
