The Cayman Islands Department of Agriculture’s Animal Welfare and Control Unit, in collaboration with the Public Works Department’s Parks, Cemeteries, and Recreation Unit, is pleased to announce the launch of the Dog Waste Bin Initiative.

As part of this initiative, 21 dog waste bins have been installed at key public locations across Grand Cayman, from East End to West Bay. These locations include high-traffic dog-walking areas such as the South Sound Boardwalk and Seven Mile Public Beach, among others.

The Dog Waste Bin Initiative aims to:

Enhance public health and sanitation by providing proper receptacles for dog waste.

Reduce disease transmission risks to both animals and humans.

Encourage legal compliance with proper waste disposal regulations.

Protect the natural environment by keeping public spaces clean.

The Animal Welfare and Control Unit encourages all dog owners to use these designated bins to dispose of canine waste responsibly and in accordance with the law.

“At the Department of Agriculture, we are committed to promoting responsible animal care and public safety, aligning with our long-term vision of a sustainable and healthy Cayman Islands. The Dog Waste Bin provides the necessary infrastructure to help dog owners properly dispose of waste, ensuring a cleaner and healthier Cayman for both residents and visitors. We urge dog owners to take full advantage of these facilities and help us protect our public spaces for future generations”, said Director of Agriculture, Brian Crichlow.

“The Department of Agriculture’s Animal Welfare and Control Unit remains committed to improving the daily lives of all community members — both human and animal,” said Dr. Ashli Welcome, Team Lead along with SAWO Mr. Erik Bodden, for the initiative. “This project is an important step toward a cleaner and healthier Cayman Islands.”
