Dominica’s carnival was a huge success

Dominica held its annual carnival on February 12 and 13 and it was a huge success, filled with colour, music, and celebration that captivated locals and visitors alike.

The grand spectacle of Mas Domnik 2024, the Real Mas, was on the second day. The festivities kicked off on Carnival Monday (Lendi Gwa), with the rhythmic beats of J’ouvert echoing through the streets from 4am. The energy intensified with electronic bands performing in the morning. A visual treat for spectators was the Ole Mas Parade

followed by the School Bands Parade. The day concluded with the lively T-Shirt Band Parade that lasted until 10pm.

Carnival Tuesday (Madi Gwa) unfolded with the Pageant Winners Parade in the morning. The Costume Bands Parade, the highlight of the day, took place followed by the Last Lap in the evening, marking the grand finale of the spectacular event.

Amongst the thousands of revelers in the capital Roseau was Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and his wife, Melissa Poponne-Skerrit, who is the Minister for Housing Land and Urban Development. They showed their support for Mas Domnik with their family on Carnival Monday, enjoying the vibes with Crazy Mess t-shirt band.

In the 2024 Calypso Monarch, Dennison ‘Dice’ Joseph, won for the tenth time the prestigious title.

Dice dethroned 2023’s monarch Trilla-G with his performance of “Wanted” and “Bring Money” at the Calypso Monarch final at Windsor Park Sports Stadium Forecourt on Saturday night.
