With Gibraltar receiving global recognition for its successful vaccination rollout, the territory is now being featured in numerous major news outlets for its efforts.
Among them, the Financial Times, the BBC, Sky News in the UK, CNN and the Washington Post and others have devoted much attention to covering Gibraltar’s strategy with the added bonus of publicity for its tourism programme.
While Gibraltar is still not fully open to international travel, Chief Minister Fabian Picardo has said that despite the economic setback caused by the pandemic, his government will ensure that it repays the cost of COVID without bringing any austerity into the economy.
In a message marking May Day/Labour Day, Chief Minister Picardo said, austerity always hurts the weakest in an economy, and those on lowest pay and benefits must not be the ones to suffer further.
He said the Government “will continue to invest in Gibraltar’s people and country, and grow the economy and revenue to ensure the public sector is sustainable and fit for purpose as we emerge from the pandemic.”
