North Sound Community Social

“Taking the time to build community, to get to know your people will have long – lasting benefits.” So said Clifton Taulbert, author and president and founder of The Freemount Corporation – a consulting company that focuses on human capital development.

Kay Carrig and Carole Broadbelt of the North Sound Estates may not have heard of Clifton Taulbert but obviously believe in this philosophy. These two ladies organized a community social on Saturday 8th. June at the community park. The relaxing, informal event was a meet and greet for all residents as well as a celebration of the wonderful roadwork recently undertaken by the National Roads Authority (NRA). Residents brought food, drinks and music and enjoyed a relaxing evening of camaraderie as they got to know their neighbours. MLA Alva Suckoo also enjoyed the event chatting with residents.

Police Commissioner David Byrne, Superintendent Robert Graham and Eastern District Acting Commander Fernando Soto - who is also a Newlands resident dropped by. Also present was Deputy Eastern District Commander Kerval Bryan.

Heather Bodden and Wayne Panton, both of whom inspired and assisted with setting up the Neighbourhood Watch Group in North Sound Estates were there to enjoy the festivities. The Neighbourhood Watch Group is in its 3rd year and going from strength to strength.

Kay Carrig presented one of her hand painted table decorations to Commissioner Byrne after he had been admiring her wonderful works of art. Commander Soto was very impressed by the organization of such a lovely community gathering and with the number of residents that came out to get to know their neighbours.

Comfortable, stable and safe communities improve the quality of life for its inhabitants and both Ms. Carrig and Ms. Broadbelt believe that North Sound Estates is a truly a wonderful community.
