“Making customers happy is the most satisfying thing about my job,” said David Gooding. With that statement, Mr. Gooding succinctly highlighted the very basis for excellent customer service. With a mind focused on the customer and a heart geared toward service, David, Operations Supervisor at DHL, is our choice for the Outstanding Employee Showcase.
David started working with DHL almost fifteen years ago as an Imports Agent. His hard work and diligence allowed him to be promoted to his current position seven years ago. In that role, he stands on the frontline of package delivery, ensuring that customers get what they pay for; quality service. He said that his reward is “Seeing the smile on their faces when we ensure the safe delivery of their package or documents.”
Allan Blake is David’s supervisor and was very quick to compliment his work ethic and diligence. His statement was, “David's dedication to continuous development has allowed him to work his way up through the ranks at our organization to the level of Operations Supervisor. This is a great honor. Well done David.” Now, that sounds like someone worthy of highlighting.
While the spotlight is being shone on David, he wanted to take some time to comment about the company that gave him this opportunity. “I worked for another company before and I can tell you that DHL is a great company to work for. Training and advancement opportunities are incredible and it has given me a chance to grow as an employee and as a person. I have learned so much; I have seen so many things; and I have visited so many countries that I would have never been to without DHL.”
When asked for advice for any young jobseekers, Mr. Gooding offered, “Stay committed, stay focused and stick to your goals. Be consistent with your effort. In the end what you put in is what you will get out. If you put in half-effort you will get half back, but if you give full-effort you will get that back.”
Overall, David Gooding exemplifies the attributes of an outstanding employee; one who is worthy of some individual recognition. He reminds us that Cayman’s workforce is a bright spot for our country; filled with hard-working Caymanians who strive to deliver excellent customer service. As if to put a metaphorical cherry on top, David ended the interview with a simple phrase, “I really enjoy what I do.” That says it all.
