St Lucia recently recorded three more virus-related deaths taking the death toll to 28 but at least it has started its vaccination programme in earnest. The health ministry claimed that all these three deceased had pre-existing medical conditions that contributed to their overall health downgrade.
There are 240 new coronavirus cases. The total number of cases diagnosed there is 2,860. At least St Lucia has begun the first phase of the coronavirus vaccine. Prime Minister Allen Chastanet received the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine’s first dose on a live telecast at the National Television Network.
Chastanet was joined by his wife and several front-line workers in the country’s vaccine drive. “My wife and I joined in on the vaccination drive as a form of support to help build confidence in those who may be sceptical about being vaccinated,” he stated on Facebook.
He stated administering the first vaccines is a great milestone for public health officials in reducing the COVID-19 outbreak.
