Trinidad cops hunt serial sex killer

Andrea Bharatt was kidnapped and murdered

Trinidad security forces are hunting a serial killer or killers who they fear may strike again soon. One woman’s body was recovered last week and human remains were found close by. The area has seen several women disappear in recent years.

The discovery of human remains at Heights of Aripo, north-east of Arima, just hours after the decomposed body of Andrea Bharatt was found has prompted homicide investigators to widen their investigation to include a series of sex crimes in which women were raped and murdered but their bodies never found.

Bharatt, 23, was kidnapped on Jan. 29, after boarding a car at King Street, Arima, on her way home from work. Her body was found six days later. “We are certain that this man, who is the main suspect in Andrea’s murder, used this area as his dumping ground in the past. This man knows the area well and is well connected,” a police spokesman said.
