“Walkers Opened the Door to my Legal Career” says Krista Samuels, Caymanian Associate

Walkers’ Cayman Islands Investment Funds Group welcomed the addition of its newest associate, Krista Samuels, who was called to the Cayman Islands Bar after successfully completing her legal training with the firm.

Krista was a recipient of the 2019 Walkers Legal Scholarship. She completed the Graduate Diploma in Law at the University of Law in 2019 where she was awarded a Distinction; and that summer she participated in the Walkers Legal Internship Programme. In 2020, Krista completed the Legal Practice Course, with Distinction, at the University of Law in Manchester. In addition to these degrees, Krista also holds a First Class Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology and Criminal Psychology from the University of Greenwich.

Cayman’s legal industry is not unfamiliar territory for Krista as she worked for four years as a Probation Officer with the Department of Community Rehabilitation. She also completed internships with the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, the Youth Services Unit and the Ministry of Home Affairs before landing on a career in law.

During her articles of clerkship Krista spent four weeks at the Cayman Islands Courts participating in the Judicial Clerkship Programme, an initiative offered by the Cayman Islands Judicial Education Committee and the Cayman Islands Legal Practitioners Association.

In her address to the Court, Krista thanked the team at Walkers for “opening the door” to her legal career and made special mention of her supervisor Shelley White. Krista said, “Thank you to the village that guided and supported me … to my family and friends for reminding me of the importance of having a balanced life.”

Krista is a former graduate and honour student of John Gray High School. She completed her A Levels at Cayman Prep & High School where she was a school prefect, mentor and learning buddy to fellow pupils.

Ingrid Pierce, Walkers’ Global Managing Partner, moved Krista’s application before the Hon. Justice Williams. “Krista is a very driven young woman,” shared Ingrid. “I’ve watched her putting in the hard work to become an attorney since her first summer interning with Walkers and, today, I am delighted to welcome her to the team.”
