Much Food Was Served at the Event

With the Christmas Holiday just over, traditionally there is a tendency for folks to be overlooked and for appreciation to be withheld.  This is a shame as there are always people who should be recognized and told that they matter.  Our Deputy Premier, Mr. Andre Ebanks, knows this and is the type of person who is always thinking of ways to make life in Cayman better for those of us who live here.  A lot of the time, his actions are at the ministerial level as he deals with policies, procedures and tweaking the system as we have it in order to bring about benefits for our people.  However, he does not forget that he is also the elected member for West Bay South.  As such, he wanted to do something special, something meaningful and tangible for the people of his constituency.

On Saturday evening, January 20th, one of his plans came to fruition.  In the heart of his district, many of his constituents made it a point to attend the event that Mr. Ebanks prepared for them.  There were tables set up for dining, delicious Caymanian food prepared and served, a heavy cake competition, a video game truck for the kids, music by DJ Frost, performances by Aunt Sookie and Ezekiel, and even an appearance by members of the government and the Governor herself.  It was a festive event; and it was for the people.

Mr. Ebanks was happy to explain the thought process behind the creation of this event.  “There are always lots of people that do things for others at Christmas time, but I wanted to do something a little different.  And with National Heroes Day happening this weekend, I thought about recognizing the everyday heroes in our own community.  This event is a way of showing them my appreciation for what they have contributed to the community, and to the Cayman Islands as a whole.”  This event is a perfect example of the respect that Mr. Andre Ebanks holds for his fellow Caymanians, especially those who have been contributing to Cayman for some time.
