A New Era for Cayman: NCFC Leaders Commit to Action, Transparency, and Progress

Government 05 May, 2025 Follow News

In a historic display of unity, the four newly elected Members of Parliament for West Bay gathered for their first public meeting at Heritage Park, officially debuting the National Coalition for Caymanians (NCFC), the working -title of the new Coalition between the Caymanian Community Party, The Cayman Islands National Party, and Independent candidates. The event marked a defining moment for Caymanian politics, as coalition leaders pledged to govern with transparency, inclusivity, and urgency.

With approaching attendees in person and more tuning in via livestream, the atmosphere was electric. The event featured an inspiring opening message from emcee Rashauna Hydes, who set the tone for the evening: “This feels like change. This feels like hope.”

Premier-elect André Ebanks, alongside Deputy Premier-elect Gary Rutty, Minister-elect Rolston Anglin, Katherine Ebanks-Wilks, and MP-elect Julie Hunter, addressed the enthusiastic crowd. The coalition leaders emphasized their commitment to delivering meaningful change for the Cayman Islands.

A Coalition Formed in Record Time

Unlike previous elections, where negotiations stretched for days, the NCFC coalition came together within 24 hours of the April 30 election. Ebanks highlighted the urgency of their mission, explaining, “We knew if this is going to go, nobody wants to wake up the next day and have to face West Bay that you all went to sleep.”

The coalition merges the Cayman Islands National Party (CINP), the Caymanian Community Party (TCCP), and independent candidates, ensuring broad representation. Minister-elect Anglin reinforced the legitimacy of the alliance, pointing to the combined electoral support of over 8,500 votes—significantly more than the Progressives’ 5,280 votes. “We did not play political games,” Anglin stated. “We honored the will of the people.”

Prioritizing Service Over Status

Julie Hunter made history as the first woman elected in West Bay West in 40 years. Instead of seeking a ministerial role, she opted to serve as a parliamentary secretary to stay closely connected with her constituents. “I want to be in the trenches,” Hunter explained, “tackling critical issues like housing, infrastructure, and education.”

Her decision reflects the coalition’s commitment to practical leadership over personal ambition—a theme reinforced throughout the night.

Katherine Ebanks-Wilks, MP for West Bay Central, praised the coalition’s transparency and its dedication to involving young Caymanians in shaping the future. “This is a night of hope,” she declared. “A night where Caymanians can believe that their country is working for them again.”

A Government of Action

The NCFC leaders vowed to transform their coalition into a government defined by action and accountability. Ebanks underscored this mission, proclaiming, “Rise up, Cayman. This marks a new era in politics. It’s time to convert hope and potential into results.”

To fulfill this commitment, coalition members outlined the following key priorities:

Housing development to provide affordable options for Caymanians.

Construction of a multipurpose hall in West Bay to facilitate community gatherings and support services.

Infrastructure improvements to modernize roads and utilities.

Education reform to enhance learning opportunities and accessibility.

Completion of the Morgan’s Harbour Dock and Apple Blossoms projects to support economic and recreational initiatives.

Ralston Anglin reinforced that the coalition’s formation was driven by genuine intent rather than political maneuvering. “We did not play political games,” he emphasized. “We honored the will of the people.”

A Transparent Path Forward

Recognizing the importance of public trust, the MPs committed to a coalition agreement that would outline specific policies and projects for residents to track. This level of transparency, they assured, would allow Caymanians to hold their government accountable.

Beyond policy, the NCFC members stressed the importance of governance driven by service and shared responsibility. Hunter’s remarks encapsulated this approach: “Together, we made history… This victory is for all of us — to break barriers, to raise voices, to build a Cayman where every Caymanian thrives.”

As the night drew to a close, the sense of optimism among attendees was palpable. Ebanks’ final message to the crowd echoed the coalition’s vision: “Rise up, Cayman. This marks a new era in politics. It’s time to convert hope and potential into results.”

With a renewed sense of purpose, the NCFC leaders embark on their mission to turn promises into action, forging a future where Caymanians can thrive.
