Local News 03 Jul, 2025 Follow News

Hosted by non profits Cayman Brac Cultural Heritage and CBRAC - Coast to Bluff Recreation Access and Conservation for the Brac District Committee of the National Trust for the Cayman Islands. This collaborative and celebratory event of art, culture and community took place at the Eldemire House, Cayman Brac on Monday, June 23rd from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.

The evening started off with a stunning sunset that inspired the attendees as they started to arrive. Which were welcomed by musicians Perry LaNess and Michael Peña Sr as music filled the air with rhythms and beats. As tables filled with everyone relaxing and painting their own masterpieces. Some created sunsets inspired by what they saw when they first arrived, while others did the conch flower center pieces and others were inspired to draw more traditional homes.

CBRAC art and poetry book Cayman Brac: From Bluff to Sea was promoted and sold at the mini craft market. A market that also included Ms Annalee Ebanks with her silver thatch baskets, hats etc. Poems from the book were read and some in the audience also took part in the open mic segment by reading their own poetry which themes ranged from the beauty magical bluff, coconut dinner, artist reflection to even a plea to end racism. Izzy’s Delights the local ice cream van was also on hand selling delectable goodies.

Inside the traditional Caymanian building an art exhibition was on display of artworks by Theingi Tin Oung. Theingi is a Burmese Caymanian resident who learnt to paint by attending the National Gallery Brac Saturday morning art group many years ago, watching YouTube videos and taking professional lessons. Her watercolours embrace and beautifully renders island life capturing its essence.

While viewing the art, guests were treated to free refreshments of local bush teas, scones and muffins, in celebration of the British theme of King Charles iii birthday event.

Many hands made this event possible and we give thanks to all, especially District Admin and the Public Works crew.
