The annual Cayman Islands Healthcare Conference takes place from 23 to 25 October at the Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman under the theme Healthy People, Healthy Planet: A Call to Action for Sustainable Healthcare. The event will bring together local and international healthcare professionals to address the intersection of health and sustainability. Attendees can expect relevant and compelling presentations and panels as well as exhibitors from healthcare related organisations and various charities.

This year’s conference will once again welcome local health practitioners, alongside representatives from the Ministry of Health, Environment and Sustainability, Department of Health and Regulatory Services, the Health Practice Commission, and various professional councils. Participants will gain fresh insights, learn practical ways to support sustainability and have the chance to network with peers and industry leaders. A limited number of speaker spots are still available for those who wish to share their expertise and ideas under this year’s theme.

Topics at this year’s conference will include building resilience in healthcare systems, implementing sustainable practices across the healthcare industry, sustainable supply chains in healthcare, sustainable procurement of medicines and devices, eco-friendly medical technologies and materials, data-driven sustainability (monitoring and reporting environmental impact) and empowering communities for healthy, sustainable living.

“As Minister for Health, Environment and Sustainability, I believe that the health of our people is dependent on a thriving planet,” said Hon. Katherine Ebanks-Wilks. “This conference serves as a powerful call to action for a healthcare system that not only heals but also champions, restores, and sustains the environment that supports us all. Together, we can take bold steps to create a resilient and viable healthcare system that meets the needs of our communities. I am excited to collaborate with leaders and practitioners to forge a future where health and environmental stewardship go hand in hand, ensuring a safe and flourishing environment for all.”

Lizzette Yearwood, co-chair of the conference planning committee and CEO of the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority explained the importance of the theme.

“Each year the Healthcare Conference delivers timely and valuable information to this community that will positively impact our country’s collective health. When we talk about ‘sustainable healthcare’, we’re talking about looking after people’s health in ways that also look after our planet, whether that’s cutting down on waste, conserving energy in our hospitals, or using more eco-friendly medicines and supplies. I believe this conference will help show how small changes in the delivery of care can add up to a big difference for our environment and our future.

“We are all stakeholders in sustainable healthcare, because every decision we make today shapes the health of our families, our communities, and our islands tomorrow. I encourage persons to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more, share their ideas and see how we can all play a part in creating a healthier, greener Cayman Islands together.”

The Healthcare Conference attracts attendees and sponsors from various sectors of the community, including healthcare, small business enterprises, caregivers, human resources, insurance, fitness and wellness and the general public.

Registration will open in September and is free to the public through the generosity of sponsors who help to cover the event costs. Continuing Medical Education (CME) certificates will be available for each presentation.

The 16th annual Cayman Islands Healthcare Conference is sponsored by Health City Cayman Islands; Cayman Islands Health Services Authority; Baptist Health International Cayman Islands; Doctors Hospital; Kelly Holding Ltd.; CINICO; The Wellness Centre and Total Health.
