When the cats away the mice will play! The accounting giants, KPMG took a little hiatus last week and it appears Walkers and the defending champions Baker Tilly took well advantage. Both teams lead the league tied at 780 points with Scotts Equipment drafting closely behind.
We have a few matches of the week this week, spreading across the board and through the divisions. Always great to see and watch the battles. Youngster Neil McComb of Phoenix Group thought he got the better of the veteran Jody Jervis of Scotts Equipment when he bolted to a 15/6 victory in the 1st game. However, for those of us that are in the same veteran category as Jody, knows that the warm up time for match play extends much further than that of the youth of today; something Neil would soon come to realize as game 2 was reversed 9/15. The proverbial 3-minute tie break was to be the decider. Veteran status not only comes with the necessity of an extended warm up, it usually also includes careful match strategy. Jody craftily calculated how many points he would need to win by in the final game to get the eventual victory. So said, so done!
Another battle of the night was the C division play between Michel of PwC and Paola of SSSC Ladies. At 1 game each, with the exact scoring line in both (15/7, 7/15), it literally would mean every point would count in the 3-minute tie break. It appears the secret training of Paola paid off as she outlasted Michel 9/5 to win the match.
