BREEZE/FUSION 5K - CAYMAN BRAC

From as early as 5:30 a.m. residents began assembling at the Public Beach area to participate in the 4th annual BREEZE/FUSION 5K Walk/Run event. This year’s event was the largest since its inception.

When participants registered they were given a bag with accessories, as well as, a T- SHIRT with the theme of the event, and the various sponsors. Of the 100 participants, 50 of them were school children who were sponsored by Deputy Premier, Hon. Mr. Moses Kirkconnell. Minister for Education, Youth and Sport, Hon. Mrs. Juliana O’Connor Connolly sent her apologies for not being able to attend as she had a previous engagement.

Present for the event from Breeze Cayman were Dean, Director Norma MacField, Deputy Director Ms. Paulette, Paul, Lyn and Raymond Singh the organizer responsible for the event.

The team was extremely delighted to see the overwhelming support and attendance this year. According to Dean, “It’s getting better each year. The fund raising from this year’s event will again go towards a notable charity endeavour.”

Director Mrs. Norma MacField who was totally delighted at the turnout said, “it’s a joy to see this event growing so quickly especially the presence of the young people. That’s refreshing. Special gratitude to the Deputy Premier, Mr. Moses Kirkconnell for his sponsorship of the children and the supermarket for providing water. Thanks also to the other local businesses for their contribution.”

Main organizer, Mr. Raymond Singh was also delighted to see how the event is blossoming. “We started this 13 years ago in Grand Cayman, and this is our fourth outing to the Brac. Funds raised this year totalled C$1,500 and will go towards Childhood Cancer Initiative, an undertaking of the Leo’s Club of Cayman Brac. We are very pleased to have the Cayman Brac Backyard Farmers group with us this year as evidence for the drive to self- sufficiency in food production. Our special thanks to all the sponsors from Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac. We could not have done this without their contributions. Thanks also to the RCIPS, THE Red Cross, Lions Club and District Administration.”

Each participant was given a medal when they crossed the finish line. There was a great deal of cheering when it came to the presentation. The winner in the male category was High Schooler, Sean Douglas Valentine while his sister Dijhany was the first place winner in the female category. The first primary school student to cross the finish line was Garrison French from West End Primary School. Medals were also awarded to participants in different age groups. The drawing of raffle prizes followed the presentation of trophies and medals. 4D’s Rentals, The Brac Snack Shack, Optical Outlook, Barry’s Golden Jerk and celebrate Cayman donated gift vouchers, certificates and gift bags.

To culminate this fantastic event, special thanks were expressed to the main sponsors, District Administration and Tourism, Roma United Sports Club, Yellow-We Know Cayman, Cayman National Bank, Subway Green Machine, RVC Physiotherapy and Chiropractic, Cayman Water and Dasani.
